Product detailed description

Battlefield role Unique features Difficulty Player tip
Fast starter force for the Combat Patrol format – a compact Drukhari Coven army for your first games and for pressuring objectives. Haemonculus + 2× “pain engine” (Talos/Cronos) + 10× Wracks – a small number of units, but lots of durability and brutal melee threats. Medium – easy to get on the table, but rewards good monster positioning and smart use of support. Keep the Wracks on objectives and “screen” them with your monsters; push the Talos forward as a threat and keep the Cronos closer to support, depending on how you build it.

Warhammer 40k: Combat Patrol: Drukhari

Want to start Drukhari and play right away? This is the perfect entry point: you get a compact Combat Patrol force built around the sadistic flesh-crafting covens – Wracks as a solid core, a Haemonculus as your leader, and two monstrous “pain engine” platforms (Talos/Cronos) as your main hammer. Perfect for your first games without the stress of list-building, and a great foundation to expand into a full army.

What’s inside and why it works

Inside you’ll find 13 Drukhari models (Haemonculus, 10× Wracks, and 2× large Pain Engines – Talos/Cronos). That gives you a clear game plan: Wracks hold ground and score objectives, while Talos/Cronos apply pressure and punish opponents for positional mistakes. Great for beginners because there are fewer units to manage, but each one has a distinct role.

Where it’s used in the game

Combat Patrol is a fast Warhammer 40,000 format: each player uses a pre-set “patrol” force for their faction. You don’t have to build a list from scratch – just build the models, pick a mission, and you’re ready to play. This box is also a great stepping stone to bigger games (1000/2000 points).

Why you’ll want it

  • Fast entry into Drukhari: few units to manage, but a lot of impact on the table.
  • 2× big models (Talos/Cronos) makes the box an immediate threat – ideal for pressure and area control.
  • Great for hobby too: Wracks paint quickly (skin + wash) and the pain engines are perfect for effects, metals, and organic textures.

Factions and a story on the table

  • Drukhari: sadistic raiders from Commorragh – fast, ruthless strikes, abductions, and “surgical” destruction.
  • Imperium (Space Marines / Astra Militarum): hold the line and objectives, relying on discipline, firepower, and resilience.
  • What it typically looks like in practice: Drukhari want to tear apart key points and kick the enemy off objectives; these models do it by applying monster pressure backed by a solid objective-holding core.

Box contents

Component Description
Haemonculus A leader and support character – an iconic coven figure with a disgusting aesthetic and lots of painting detail.
Wracks (10 models) The box’s core for objectives and board control – ideal for beginners (quick to build, quick to paint, and they hold their ground on the table).
Cronos (alternatively Talos) A large “pain engine” – build it depending on whether you want more support/utility or a more aggressive approach (based on loadout and role).
Talos (alternatively Cronos) The second large “pain engine” – the main threat on the table that forces your opponent to react and change their plan.
Bases Includes large flying base options for the pain engines and 25mm bases for the infantry.
Plastic components Models are supplied unassembled and unpainted – you’ll need plastic glue and paints (see recommendations below).

Recommended paints for Drukhari Coven

A basic palette for quick “battle ready” results, with room to expand into more detail.

Primer (recommended)

Citadel Chaos Black Spray

Use: A quick dark base – ideal for metals, weapons, and the darker parts of the models.

Main model colors

Rakarth Flesh

Use: Wracks skin and other “flesh” areas – covers fast and delivers a grimdark look.

Abaddon Black

Use: Base for armor, straps, weapons, and high-contrast parts – ties the whole model together.

Kabalite Green

Use: Tubes, toxins, energy details, and glow elements – adds that signature Drukhari vibe.

Detail accents

Leadbelcher

Use: Metals for tools, weapons, and mechanical parts of the pain engines.

Screamer Pink

Use: Flesh, scars, organic growths, and nasty details on coven models.

Shading (Shade / Wash)

Druchii Violet

Use: Wash for skin and flesh (Rakarth Flesh) – instantly adds depth and a horror vibe.

Highlights (optional)

Pallid Wych Flesh

Use: Quick edge highlights for skin and raised areas – just a few strokes and the model pops.

Assembly and tools

Citadel Plastic Glue

Use: Gluing plastic miniatures – strong bonds and clean results.

Citadel Starter Brush

Use: A basic brush for basecoats and quick “battle ready” painting.

Citadel Shade Brush

Use: Ideal for washes (e.g. Druchii Violet) – faster and cleaner shading.

How to play it (quick tactics)

Key element How it works
Wracks on objectives Place them to score points and hold space; don’t play them to “kill”, play them to “control”.
Talos as the hammer Apply forward pressure – your opponent must react, or you’ll smash the middle of the table.
Cronos as support Depending on the build it can be more utility-focused: stay near key units and help maintain your game tempo.
Haemonculus as the army’s “glue” Keep it safe, but positioned to influence the game – support the core where the fight for objectives is decided.

FAQ for complete beginners

Question Answer
Is it ready to play straight out of the box? The models are unassembled and unpainted. After building them, you can play Combat Patrol games without list-building (the force is pre-set).
What do I need at the bare minimum? Plastic glue, clippers/knife, a few basic paints, dice, and a tape measure. Combat Patrol rules and missions can be found in Warhammer 40,000 materials.
Is this suitable as a first army? Yes – each unit has a clear role and there are only a few “active” parts to manage. Great for learning movement, cover, and objective play.
How long does it take to build and do a basic paint job? Wracks are quick (skin + wash + highlight). Talos/Cronos is a bigger project, but large surfaces make it very paint-friendly.

How to continue after your first games

What’s next? Why
Add more infantry / fast units You’ll gain more board presence, better objective control, and more flexibility across missions.
Add more synergistic Drukhari units You’ll move from Combat Patrol into 1000+ points and start building your own style (Coven/Kabal/Cult mix).

Recommended follow-ups

Path Recommendation
More models for objectives Add another unit that can “do the work” on points while your monsters pressure the enemy.
More melee pressure Increase the number of threats so your opponent can’t find the “right” answer to everything at once.
Hobby upgrade Pigments/effects for blood, rust, and organic textures can turn a coven army into true display pieces.
