World Eaters, originally known as the War Hounds, were the XII Legion of the Legiones Astartes. Their Primarch, Angron, was a brutal warrior enslaved and tortured on the planet Nuceria, where he was implanted with the Butcher’s Nails – neural implants that heightened aggression but destroyed empathy.

After reuniting with Angron, the Legion changed – uncontrollable fury became their hallmark. During the Horus Heresy, the World Eaters were one of the first traitor legions, infamous for the massacres on Istvaan V and later for the Shadow Crusade alongside the Word Bearers, during which they exterminated billions across Ultramar.

In the Horus Heresy game system, the World Eaters focus on close combat, with rules like Berserk Charge and Chainaxe Mastery. Their ranks include Rampagers, Red Butchers, Destroyers, and heroes such as Khârn the Bloody, Gorefather, and Angron himself.
