Product detailed description

Precision manual micro drill with swivel palm rest · Green Stuff World

Hobby hand drill

Precision hand drill designed to give you absolute control when drilling miniature holes into plastic, resin, and metal without melting the material.

About the product

Every modeler knows the feeling: you try to drill out a barrel with a rotary power tool, and high speeds melt the plastic in seconds, ruining the detail. This manual micro drill brings complete tactile feel back to your hand. No more slipping or ruined parts – thanks to the stable swivel palm rest, you rest the drill comfortably against your palm, smoothly turn the knurled body with your fingers, and drill a precise hole exactly where you need it. Whether reinforcing heavy resin limbs via pin joints, installing magnets for weapon options, or adding realistic depth to gun barrels, this tool is a cornerstone of every clean hobby desk.

Basic workshop tool for conversions and model building, Green Stuff World modeling tools range

Tips and tricks

Product typeQuick overview
UseDrilling out gun barrels, preparing holes for pinning joints, and detailed modifications of plastic, resin, and metal parts
Specific applicationDrilling bolter muzzles and cannon barrels without slipping off-center, reinforcing stressed miniature joints with steel wire, fitting small neodymium magnets into model limbs
Method and techniqueWeapon modifications (drilling out bolter muzzles and cannon barrels) – 0.8 to 1.2 mm drill bit | Pinning stressed limb joints – 1.0 to 1.5 mm drill bit with brass rod | Magnetizing miniatures and swappable weapon options – 2.0 to 3.0 mm drill bit | Riveting and armor detailing – 0.3 to 0.5 mm drill bit
Advantages100% Tactile control prevents damage to thin plastic walls, friction does not melt material unlike rotary power tools, easy centering and precise hole alignment on the first try
What to watch forUnsuitable for rapid drilling of large series of holes in hard steel materials, requires manual turning and caution when working with micro bits under 0.5 mm due to snapping risk under side pressure
CombinationSet of micro drill bits of various diameters, hobby super glue, brass or steel rods for pinning, miniature neodymium magnets
Practical tipBefore you start drilling, make a small pilot dimple in the center of the future hole with the tip of a hobby knife – the drill bit will seat immediately, won't slip on smooth plastic, and you'll hit the hole accurately on the first try

How to use

Loosen the front chuck, insert the required drill bit, and tighten securely. Use the tip of a hobby knife to create a small pilot indentation on the plastic to prevent the tool from slipping. Rest the rounded end cap in the center of your palm, place the bit into the indentation, and gently rotate the body between your thumb and index finger, gradually removing material with minimal downward pressure.

Materials and surfaces

Polystyrene (plastic), resin, white metal, pewter, wood, plaster, and modeling putties

Smooth operation of the swivel palm rest, allowing you to maintain stable pressure and direction while merely rotating the tool body with your fingers
