Water and Water Effects
Water and Water Effects – realistic water for dioramas and terrain
Water and water effects allow you to create realistic water surfaces for dioramas, miniature bases, model scenes and gaming terrain. With the right materials, you can recreate calm water, lakes, rivers, streams, puddles, coastlines and rough water.
Water effects can be used to create transparency, depth, colour transitions and realistic surface texture. Depending on the product, you can model gentle ripples, currents, rapids or more pronounced waves and combine the finished effect with rocks, mud, sand and waterside vegetation.

Create calm surfaces for lakes, ponds and other still waters. Complete the scene with rocks, mud, reeds, grass and other waterside vegetation for a natural appearance.
Water effects are also ideal for modelling rivers, streams and other flowing water. Depending on the scene, you can keep the surface almost smooth or create visible currents and movement.
Textured water effects allow you to recreate movement on the surface, including ripples, currents and rapids, adding greater depth and dynamism to your water features.
Water effects are equally useful for smaller bases and scenes. Create puddles, wet depressions, ditches, small streams or patches of water between rocks and other terrain elements.
Create a realistic sense of depth by combining a suitably painted base with the water effect itself. Darker tones can represent deeper areas, while lighter shades work well near shorelines and shallows.
Water effects can be used on small scenic bases as well as larger dioramas and gaming tables. Combine them naturally with rocks, soil, mud, sand, vegetation and other scenic textures.
First prepare the surrounding terrain and paint the bottom of the water feature. To create a stronger sense of depth, use darker tones in the centre or deeper areas and gradually transition to lighter shades towards the shoreline. Then apply your chosen water effect according to the desired result and the manufacturer's instructions. Products designed for surface modelling can be shaped to create gentle ripples, currents or more pronounced water texture. Once completely dry, finish the shoreline with rocks, sand, mud, reeds, grass and other vegetation so that the water feature blends naturally into the surrounding terrain.
