Lighting for precise miniature building and painting

Good workspace lighting makes it easier to work on fine details, apply paint accurately and judge colours while building and painting miniatures. An evenly lit work surface helps you see small imperfections, colour transitions and model details more clearly.

Suitable lighting is especially important during longer painting sessions, when a poorly lit workbench can increase eye strain and distort your perception of colours.

Even illumination

Well-positioned lighting reduces harsh shadows on the model and makes it easier to check surfaces, details and transitions between different shades.

More accurate colour work

Suitable task lighting helps you distinguish shades more easily and assess the final appearance of colours when layering, highlighting and using other painting techniques.

More comfortable longer sessions

A well-lit work surface reduces the need to strain your eyes when working on small details and makes longer modelling sessions more comfortable.

Direct the light at the model, not into your eyes

Position the lamp so that it illuminates the work surface evenly without creating strong glare or harsh shadows. For painting, it is practical to use lighting with neutral colour rendering and, where possible, illuminate the workspace from more than one direction.
