Fanatic Metallics

Fanatic Metallics – metallic paints for weapons, armour and details

Fanatic Metallics are acrylic metallic paints from The Army Painter designed for painting weapons, armour, machinery, jewellery and other metallic parts of miniatures. The range extends from dark iron and steel through bright silver shades to gold, bronze, copper and striking coloured metallics for fantasy and sci-fi models.

You can use the metallic shades on their own or combine them to create shadows and highlights. A darker metallic works well as a base, a mid-tone for the main surfaces, and a lighter metallic paint for edges and the most brightly lit areas.

Iron and dark steel

Rough Iron, Gun Metal and other darker metallic shades are ideal for weapons, chains, mechanical parts and dark armour. They also work well as a base that can then be highlighted with a lighter metallic shade.

Silver and bright metals

Plate Mail Metal, Shining Silver and Mithril are ideal for steel armour, blades, sharp edges and other bright metallic surfaces. By combining several shades, you can easily create a clear distinction between shadows and reflections.

Gold and brass

Tainted Gold, Greedy Gold, Bright Gold and True Brass offer different tones and intensities of gold and brass metallics. They are ideal for decorations, armour, jewellery, insignia and striking ornamental details.

Copper and bronze

Red Copper, True Copper and Weapon Bronze are ideal for warmer metallic surfaces, aged equipment, ornaments, pipes and mechanical components. These shades can also be combined with patina and other weathering effects.

Coloured fantasy and sci-fi metallics

Cobalt Metal, Dark Emerald, Glittering Green and Gemstone Red add striking colour to metallic surfaces. They are ideal for fantasy armour, magical weapons, sci-fi technology and other areas where classic silver or gold is not enough.

Metallic shadows and highlights

A more realistic metallic finish does not have to be painted with a single shade. Start with a darker metallic base, brighten the main surfaces with a mid-tone, and highlight the highest edges with a bright metallic shade for a stronger impression of reflected light.

How to choose a metallic paint?

First, choose the type of metal based on the material you want to recreate – iron and steel for weapons and mechanical parts, gold or brass for decorative elements, and copper or bronze for warmer metallic surfaces. If you want to create greater depth, do not stop at a single shade: use a darker metallic paint for the shadows and a lighter shade on raised surfaces and edges. Shake the bottle thoroughly before use to ensure that the metallic particles are evenly mixed.
