Lock N Load
LOCK 'N LOAD – Weathering with Pencil and Water
LOCK 'N LOAD is a system consisting of a mechanical weathering pencil and interchangeable watercolour leads for quickly and precisely creating scratches, dust, dirt, streaks, rust, panel shading, and other effects. Simply draw the effect onto the model and, as needed, blend or soften it with a brush dampened with water.
The system combines the precision of a pencil with the blendability of watercolour paint. This allows you to create both fine lines and soft transitions while continuously controlling the intensity of the effect. LOCK 'N LOAD is suitable for beginners and experienced modellers alike who want a quick and clean way to apply localised weathering without working with enamel thinner.

The Rechargeable Technical Pencil serves as a precise holder for interchangeable leads. It allows you to draw fine lines, scratches, wear marks, panel lines, and other small effects directly onto the surface of the model.
Weathering Colors are refills designed for classic ageing and weathering effects. Use them to create dust, dirt, rust, streaks, and other natural signs of use and environmental exposure.
Effects Colors expand the system with additional effects and colour options. They are ideal for scratches, shading, coloured markings, and other fine details that can be drawn precisely and then adjusted with water.
With a dry lead, you can work much like you would with a precise modelling pencil. Draw a line, scratch, or other detail exactly where you need it, gradually increasing the intensity with additional strokes.
For a softer effect, use a brush lightly dampened with water to spread or blend the drawn mark into the desired transition. You can also moisten the tip of the lead directly and work with it wet.
A matt surface provides better adhesion for the lead and makes controlled application of the effect easier. If you want to continue with additional wet weathering techniques, you can first protect the finished work with a thin coat of varnish.
Start with the mechanical pencil and a set of refills suited to the effects you want to create. Draw a small amount of colour onto a matt surface, then spread or soften it using a clean brush lightly dampened with water. If the result is not what you want, you can adjust or remove it with water before sealing it. Work gradually – several subtle layers will give you greater control than a single heavy effect.
