Medium
Medium – Adjust the Properties of Your Acrylic Paints
AK Interactive mediums expand the possibilities of standard acrylic paints and allow you to adjust their transparency, drying time, final sheen, and other properties. They give you greater control over your paints when glazing, blending, layering, and using other painting techniques.
Each medium serves a different purpose. Glaze Medium makes it easier to create transparent layers, Matte and Gloss Medium adjust the finish of the painted surface, Retarder extends the working time, and Metal Medium is designed for creating metallic effects. This category also includes Acrylic Drying Retardant Gel for extended blending and Paint Stripper for removing old layers of paint.

Glaze Medium is ideal for glazing and subtle tinting. It helps create more transparent layers of paint, allowing you to gradually alter shades, deepen shadows, or create smooth colour transitions without completely covering the previous layer.
Retarder slows down the drying time of acrylic paint, giving you more time to work with it. It is particularly useful for blending, creating smooth transitions, and any technique where standard acrylic paint dries too quickly.
Matte Medium can be used to modify acrylic paint when you want to maintain or enhance a matt surface finish. It is useful for layering and other techniques where you do not want the final coat to appear too glossy.
Use Gloss Medium when you want to give your paint a glossier appearance. It is ideal for wet, smooth, or shiny materials and can be mixed with acrylic paint according to the desired intensity of the final effect.
Metal Medium expands your options when creating metallic surfaces. You can use it to create your own metallic shades or modify colours whenever you want to add a metallic character to the final result.
Acrylic Drying Retardant Gel extends drying time and makes longer blending sessions easier. Paint Stripper serves a different purpose – it is used to remove old layers of paint when you want to clean a model and prepare it for repainting.
Choose according to what you want to change about your paint. For transparent layers and glazing, use Glaze Medium. For a longer working time, choose Retarder or Acrylic Drying Retardant Gel. To adjust the surface finish, use Matte or Gloss Medium, and for metallic effects, choose Metal Medium. Add the medium gradually in small amounts and test the mixture on a palette or test surface first. If you need to remove an old paint job and start again, use Paint Stripper.
