AMMO modelling varnishes for protection and the final finish of your model
AMMO modelling varnishes are designed for the final finishing and protection of painted surfaces on miniatures, plastic models, vehicles, aircraft, terrain and dioramas. They help protect previous layers of paint while also allowing you to control the final appearance of the surface, from a pronounced gloss to a deeply matt finish.
Varnish can be used not only at the end of a project, but also between individual painting and weathering stages. A gloss finish is suitable, for example, before certain washes and decals, while matt or satin varnish is often used to unify and complete the overall appearance of the model.
A matt finish reduces unwanted reflections and is suitable for most military vehicles, terrain, fabrics and other surfaces that should look natural and non-glossy.
A satin finish provides a compromise between matt and gloss. It retains a slight sheen and is suitable where you want neither a completely matt nor a strongly glossy result.
Gloss varnish creates a smoother and more reflective surface. It can be used for glossy materials, wet effects or as an intermediate layer before further modelling techniques.
Varnish creates a final layer over paints and effects and helps protect the finished surface during handling, gaming or further work on the model.
Depending on the specific product, AMMO acrylic varnishes can be applied with a brush or airbrush. Working in thin layers is important for achieving an even finish.
Different types of finish can be used between individual stages of a project according to the technique that follows and the final appearance you want to achieve.
When applying with an airbrush or brush, build up even, thin layers and allow the surface to dry between applications. A layer that is too heavy can create an uneven finish or build up in fine details. Before applying the final varnish, it is therefore always better to test the process first on a less visible area or a test surface.
